Research strand 1
Pedagogy and Didactics
In our disrupted 21st century school, adapting lessons to the needs of all the students represents a major lever of action for the improvement of pupil retention.
In our disrupted 21st century school, adapting lessons to the needs of all the students represents a major lever of action for the improvement of pupil retention.
The members associated with this strand address lasalé’s research topics through a focus on the activities of pupils and teachers (pedagogy) and on the curriculum contents (didactics).
They share their viewpoints to reflect about ways to prevent schooling difficulties, and to allow all pupils to complete their education with a qualification.
Student progress is highly associated with components related to the learning of the study subjects themselves. By engaging with the study contents on the one hand (as do disciplinary didactics) and through the analysis of the activity of the pupils and their teachers on the other hand (as do the psychology of teaching and education and the theories of motivation for example), it is possible to define avenues capable of promoting learning and, ultimately, pupil retention.
The challenges facing school are as numerous as the levers of action on which it can rely to lead all students to a completion of their education with a qualification.
The members associated with this 1st strand are therefore particularly interested in the various pedagogical adjustments that are put into place within each of the study subjects to keep students engaged in their learning.

The aim of this research project is to study the pedagogical practices of dance teachers in Quebec who instruct students with disabilities in regular and specialized classes.
13 schools are being offered support for personalized student assistance in order to improve their knowledge and motivation in mathematics.
