Mathplay
Development of the numeracy skills of 4- to 6-year-old pupils, and the school-family relationship through intercultural mathematical games.
Brief research overview
Early education, the school-family relationship and support for teachers are among the European recommendations listed to fight against early school leaving (European recommendations for Early School Leaving, 2011). Among these early learnings, numeracy skills are very predictive of later mathematical performance and are associated with academic success. Parental involvement is also beneficial.
Main objectives
The Mathplay project aims to:
- Assess, with the help of questionnaires, the representations of teachers and parents on the importance of the learning of mathematics, parental commitment, and the school-family relationship;
- To evaluate the effects of a series of math games on the numeracy skills of 4- to 6-year-old pupils.
