“For a long time, I have noticed that I often find myself on a “boundary line” between universes which seek to coexist, I adhere to the concept of the “liminal” position of the person with a disability, and I work to “make people move the lines” everywhere I go… Is this my place? At least, this is my position, which is sometimes uncomfortable, but which seeks to create movement, a breath of life by considering the person in a holistic and empowering way. ”
After working as a special needs educator in different sectors, Isabelle Petry Genay resumed a university course in educational sciences and was a part-time teacher at the Université de Bourgogne (2012-2016) as well as a part-time trainer in various organizations including the IRTS de Lorraine (2015-2016), and the DAIP dropout prevention unit (2014-2015). From 2015 to 2019, she was the coordinator of a specialized school system (ULIS) in a private vocational high school in Remiremont (Vosges) where she assisted students with cognitive disabilities in their educational and professional development. Since 2018, Isabelle Petry Genay has been a member of lasalé. Currently, she is working on an educational consultancy project and is a referent teacher for students with disabilities.
Her research work mainly focuses on school counselling services and the pathways of students with cognitive disabilities as well as family strategies in the event of dropping out of school. Her thesis addressed the orientation processes of students with cognitive disabilities at the secondary level: the ULIS system in its socializing and empowering dimensions.
Her current interests focus on the notion of an enabling environment, both in education and specialized education, and the implementation of collaborative research between academia and actors in the field.
