Students at risk of dropping out at the secondary level 1: experiences, perceptions of actors and actresses and support options.
Students at risk of dropping out at the secondary level 1: experiences, perceptions of actors and actresses and support options.
The new law on compulsory education (LEO) aims to put into place, at the secondary level 1, clearer ways of assessing schooling trajectories. According to teachers, many students in level 1 classes seem to make little progress and are facing the threat of having to repeat a school year. Among these students, some are in a dynamic which can lead to dropping out of school: increased learning difficulties, decreased self-esteem, and a development of behavioural difficulties. Given these elements and the key role played by the teaching / learning of French in academic success, this research project proposes to consider this discipline as an anchor point in order to analyse the experiences and practices of the actors and actresses. This will involve, on the one hand, the documenting of the experiences of governing boards, teachers, and students at risk of dropping out, and an exploration of the support options currently available to these students.
