“My personal and professional commitment is to improve the provision of support for children followed by child protection services. Thanks to the analysis of the school trajectories of these children, I hope to be able to understand the levers that make it possible to further combat inequalities between students and thus offer recommendations for the improvement of the support available for these children. ”
After being awarded a diploma in social work, Alice Anton resumed studies in educational sciences and completed a thesis entitled “l’accrochage scolaire des jeunes confiés à une famille d’accueil : une réussite atypique au regard des parcours de vie” [“The school retention of young people in the care of a foster family: an atypical success story with regards to life courses”]. Convinced that an essential prerequisite for improving the support available for recipients of social care is the improved training of social workers, she currently works as director of training at the Institut du Travail Social Pierre Bourdieu in Pau. Her objective is to encourage a better alignment between the current needs and expectations of recipients of social care and the training of future social workers.
Her research activities focus mainly on the education of children and young people who are followed by child protection services, be it in foster families, in institutions or in non-custodial environments. She particularly concentrates on successful educational trajectories of these young people with the objective of analysing the school retention factors mitigating the risk of dropping out. She is also interested in the links that exist between the actors involved in the life of the child – whether parents, social workers, or teachers – in order to identify the nature of their interactions, and the consequences on the school trajectories of the children followed by child protection services. All this being done in order to offer recommendations aimed at a greater efficiency in helping the children. Currently, she co-coordinates, together with Benjamin Denecheau, the response to the 2019 call for projects from the Observatoire National de la Protection de l’Enfance [National Child Protection Observatory] on the education of children placed under child protection.
